Indica Ritual – Seamless Ejaculation / Alpha Male

Indica Ritual - Seamless Ejaculation / Alpha Male

Samizdat / Post Music,
Artist: Indica Ritual

First review By Matthew Britton

They’ve already played with HEALTH and Crystal Castles, but with their latest 7” Indica Ritual are really making huge strides. Currently in the process of recording their first album, the band’s two track single simply raises the weight of expectation upon their long player.

A joint venture by Samizdat and Post Music, this is a curiously eclectic release. What’s most surprising is the band’s location – their sound is one of industrial New York, place that brought us Battles and Liars, two massive influences upon Indica Ritual’s songs. But far from hopping around the lower-east side, they’re trotting around Liverpool and making some of the most exciting math rock you’re ever likely to hear from England’s North-West.

Though the intricate A-side ‘Seamless Ejaculation’ may have the better title and sound a lot like something you could’ve heard on ‘Mirrored’, but it’s ‘Alpha Male’ that really catches the eye. Filled with choice cuts of synth pop and the kind of chanting that Les Savy Fav would be proud of, it’s quirky and brilliant. 2010 is certain to bring bigger and better things for this bizarre quintet.

‘When a twenty-legged tribe like Chrome Hoof takes the stage, you know there’s a party coming, even if you haven’t heard a single note from [them].’

“Armed to the teeth with an impenetrable front line armoury of feedback squalls and grizzled grooves, the scouse space cadets set their cosmic dials for un-chartered realms, the spectacle is one of unrelenting intensity”

Call for Players - a.P.A.t.T. presents... Terry Riley’s In C - This December

TerryRiley-InC

Tues 8 December 2009, a.P.A.t.T. presents…

Terry Riley’s In C

Call for Musicians

A large ensemble of musicians drawn from across the city’s music scene – all backgrounds, interests and experiences welcomed – will take over the Bluecoat for a building-wide performance of Terry Riley’s mesmerizing minimalist masterpiece, In C.

United by a common tempo and responding to the collective poly-rhythmic sound, the musicians make their own ways through Riley’s 53 musical ‘units’ as the piece pulses through the Bluecoat.

a.P.A.t.T. – who are also composing new works for this one-off ensemble – are a Liverpool based musical collective. Recent projects include a full live score to Nosferatu commissioned by BBC Radio. www.apatt.com

Worried about reading score??

Don’t!!! a.P.A.t.T. will provide a non-music-reader friendly score with notes clearly stated along the piece. This, along with several rehearsals should allow a musician with a basic understanding of their instrument access to the performance.

Conditions:

• You need to be over 18 and have basic music reading ability – although there’s nothing too tricky and you will have the score in advance.
• Unfortunately, due to the size of the envisioned ensemble, there is no fee available for performing – you’ll be doing it for the love of the music!
• You need to be technically self-contained – either fully acoustic or supplying your own (small) amplifier.
• You need to be able to commit to 2 practices (Sun 6 and Mon 7 Dec) and the performance (Tues 8 Dec), all at the Bluecoat.
• Deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 6 November.

a.P.A.t.T. at Upset the Rhythm's YES WAY Festival

Here is a snoop at some of this years set at YES WAY. A rather spiffing 2 day event at Auto Italia in London.

Loads of ace acts played and the whole thing was ran by Upset the Rhythm, who interestingly enough will be releasing a Split 12″ later in the year featuring a.P.A.t.T. and DJ Scotch Egg’s band ‘DRUM EYES’

Scathing comment left on YouTube for a.P.A.t.T.

SPITZLYRIX

Feel free to browse this users sheer hate for a.P.A.t.T.
In this quite personal attack, the high level of accuracy is quite staggering...

SPITZLYRIX

apatthetic was of time

what a hideously untalented gaggle of pointless shite!
whats with these constant references to jazz?i dont see any? jazz doesnt simply come about if you own a saxaphone and trumpet , nor is jazz defined by a generic sounding mess
jazz is not "mess" anyone with one iota of musical talent would know that...this is simply murdering any chance of being taken seriously.
this isnt ground breaking like you imagine it is,or completely different like you want to be- its silly
with this "were all wild eyed and surreal!"-and "we dont care what people think were ahead of our time!"..its absolutley god aweful-its like you simply cant or are not able to make anything close to a melody, and youll say "yeah-but frank zappa frank zappa!" where in the hell is jazz even present here?, coz somebody blows on a trumpet a few times? i saw a video live from sayers, and there was a keyboard or synth right infront of the ugly talentless bearded guy, why did he not use it!..infact why are you only using 0.1% of every instruments potential?,you remind me of the crap on "jazz club" from the fast show, and you dont mind that? have you ever heard the term "if you lock 50 monkeys in a room with 50 type writers -eventually they will write the complete works of shakespear"-which is untrue, well just by putting 5 aging music students in a room with whatever instruments they regard as "out there" doesnt garantee great music, this is the easiest form of "music" and i use the term lightly- to create isnt it. "i know guys we"ll make stuff thats so crap-we"ll be regarded as avante garde, contempary, progressive and new, the hand full of wannabe friends you have desperate to dress, talk, act and like anything thats different to set them apart from everyone else (who as it happens are just the same as them) , have probably fed this ridiculus mind set of yours...coz they think anything different they should get behind.. even your name has no substance to it let alone your music.."apatt" whats it mean guys? "anarchy precedes all that it touches"?..."all present attack the tabloids" "attitude permiates alternate thinking time"...urm, no "its our mums names" do you not see how terribly sad and mundane that is?...by all means have a name that lacks everything , like "the who" , or "the the" but then turn it on its head by actually being good!-its called irony! .. .i fear that one person in your "group" is the driving force behind this dead end you call music, i bet the same one person is the guy who makes your album covers, and posters-thats just the way egotisticle dickheads work-how would i know that? go on ask yourself that-probly the very same turd that made your you-tube page , so i guess im talking to you!...all you are doing is simply sealing your fate when it comes to your futures as musicians? why do you not see this?..do you not listen to the finished product?....make no mistake you are shit.

for those that missed it.......

'the worst pile of absolute fucking shite i have ever had the bad luck to watch, what pretentious cliche drivel is this, i fear its not even done in jest, u get zero points for originality-sounds like the shit off "jazz time" off the fast show, and your attempt to be "out there" "new" "individual" "trendy" "so lame its good" "retro" turn into some wannabe arty farty generic repetative tripe, whats with this "im ugly as sin talentless and luvin it" attitude theze silly students have theze days?GAY'

ace!
